Der Fleischer und seine Frau / The butcher and his wife and a roast- pork recipe (for Vanessa)

Hallo ihr Lieben,
ich habe einen kleinen Austausch mit meiner Blogfreundin Vanessa von Ohh La La Design Studio über die Essgewohnheiten von Wölfen und deutschen Großmüttern gehabt.
Dies inspirierte mich zu diesem feisten sehr deutschen Fleischer und seiner Frau.
Ein Hoch auf unsere Metzgermeister und darauf, das Deutschland das Land mit den vielfältigsten Fleisch- und Wurstwaren ist.
Habt ein schönes Wochenende und viel Spaß beim Fußballgucken am Sonntag,. Vergesst nicht eine Wurst auf den Grill zu legen.

Hello my friends,
recently I had a little chat with my blogfriend Vanessa of Ohh La La Design Studios about the eating-habits of wolfes and german grandmothers. This inspired me to draw this very german Butcher and his wife.
Three cheers to the german butcher- masters and thereon, that Germany is indeed the country with the biggest sausage- diversity in the world.
Well I am going to grill some sausages on sunday, while I will watch the world-champion- match
Germany vs England.

But now I have a recipe for hog roast.
It is for Vanessas wolf and for everybody who loves the german kitchen.
Our dishes are not sophisticated. They are simple and hearty.
Importand is that you use meat of real good quality.
It stands and falls with the meat.
I can´t hardly cook, but I can make a hell of a hog roast.
This recipe is of my grandmother. She was a kitchen godess.

  1. Oh, Janine, so viele Erinnerungen kommen bei deinem Post in mir hoch! Meine Oma war wie deine Oma, und meine Mutter auch - was konnten die kochen! Und die deutsche Wurst und Fleisch - wenn ich meine Familie besuchen gehe, esse ich fast nur geraeucherten Schinken wenn es Brot gibt. Den kann ich hier immernoch nicht finden...   2. Janine, I lived in a small apartment in Esslingen (Stuttgart area) back in the late 70's. I love my little kitchen and yes, it was very functional. I created all sorts of wonderful dishes while there. I introduced my wonderful friend, Ute, to Mexican food and made many German dishes. She told me I could cook and bake German food better than any German she knew!! LOL And as for the pork, well, I'm not much into pork...I guess it's from living in a Jewish neighborhood most of my youth and the fact my mother couldn't eat it due to the fact it didn't sit well with her stomach, so we just didn't eat a lot of it. However, while there, the pork was out of this world...haven't had anything like it unless I go across town to the local German butcher.

  3. Hi Janine. How nice of you to post your Grandmother's recipe for Vanessa. I'm sure she will be very happy with it. I like the look of that old recipe, the paper is worn and old. You know what would be great? Make copies of the recipe and use them for collages. That would look great. I bet that pork is out of this world. I will definitely make a pork roast some time in the future and be sure to use your Grandmother's recipe. Thanks for sharing. Have a great weekend.

  7. Sehr schoen, and auch mit ein bisschen Humor. Ich ess gern Wurst. Ich esse nicht besonders gern Scweinefleusch ausser wenn ich in Deutschland bin. Ich weiss nicht warum, aber es schmeckt immer besser als hier. Blutwurst schmeckt mir auch sehr gut, aber hier sieht man das kaum oder nie.

    Ein schönes Fleischer Paar ist Dir gelungen. Ich vermisse die deutsche Wurst hier in der Schweiz. wir kommen immer mit einem riesen Wurst Paket aus Deutschland.

    Ich liebe Deinene blog...Dein Bild vom Metzger und seiner Frau ist echt schoen! Ich sehne mich noch immer nach Deutschen Metzgereien - solche habe noch nie hier in Amerika gesehen. Obwohl ich nicht mehr viel Fleisch esse, wuerde ich trotzdem gerne echte Nuernberger Bratwuerstchen essen oder Weisswurst mit suessen Senf...
    Es war schoen von Dir mich zu besuchen. Ich komme bald wieder!
